About VTAlerts:

The VTAlerts application is specifically designed for the VTA bus and light rail system in Santa Clara County, California. It serves as a safety tool for riders, providing a discreet and efficient method for reporting safety concerns and suspicious activities to VTA Security or the police in case of an emergency. With VTAlerts, riders can easily send text messages, pictures, and location information related to suspicious individuals or activities, contributing towards a safer and more comfortable riding experience for all passengers.

Upon launching the app, riders are presented with two convenient options for contacting security:

1. The "Report a Problem" button enables users to directly communicate with VTA Security by sending text or photos through the app. To ensure utmost discretion, the app automatically disables the camera flash while capturing photos. Moreover, riders can select specific station locations and report categories to assist VTA Security. If desired, reports can also be submitted anonymously. In areas with no cellular connectivity, reports will be stored and sent once connectivity is regained. Importantly, the app is designed to prioritize sending messages before pictures to facilitate prompt responses from VTA Security.
2. The "Call 911" button provides riders with direct access to contact the police in case of emergencies.

Additional Features:

• BOLO (Be On the Look Out) Alerts: The app may display BOLO Alerts from VTA Security regarding specific individuals of interest. For instance, VTAlerts may provide information about a missing person or child along with their last known location. If a person matching the description on a BOLO Alert is spotted, it is vital to immediately call 911 and discreetly send an app report to VTA Security.
